Teach students how to make a boat out of origami. http://www.youtube.com/user/HapHazNerd
Read the class the Tale of Sable Island (fiction but based on facts).
As you read about the crashing of the boat, rip the corners and top off the paper boat so that when you open it up, you are left with the T-shirt.

for Log-In lessons contructed by classmates.
Learning about Identity is a large part of the Social Studies outcomes for Elementary.
This worksheet can be used to serve as a basis for understanding what contributes to one's identity and what groups they belong to (formally or informally). I used it as a survey for children to fill out themselves, but they could learn about eachother by filling out a classmates name beside the boxes. Feel free to modify it. This was used in Primary and linked to primary outcomes.
The Connections Game
The game linked above is a fun, interactive game that gets children to learn about themselves and classmates. It can be tied into various grade levels but listed are the connections for the Identity unit in Primary.
